Site 95 at Baikonur Cosmodrome

The main residential area which provides housing for the personnel involved in Proton operations is often referred to as "Proton city" by foreign visitors. It is officially designated Site 95.

Along with military barracks and auxiliary infrastructure, the residential area of the "Proton city" included Kometa, Fili and Polyot hotels for visitors and personnel temporary working at the site during launch campaigns. It also had a community center, two stores, a club and a sports facility. The surrounding area also had various storage facilities, a power plant, a concrete-producing plant, a railroad station, a fire station and a garage coplex.

In the mid-1990s, GKNPTs Khrunichev, which took over the facility during the post-Soviet crisis years, renovated a number of key buildings at the site, in order to support commercial launches of Proton rockets. However some former military facilities were left to decay and with the decline of Proton operations in the 2010s, the big sections of the area were abandoned.
